Though I’ve only ever seen the Living Legends live only once, I’m a fan of several of the artists solo and side projects. I know the quality of hop hop that come from these artists including Sunspot Jonz. Its an easy sell for me when they’ve also got Hieroglyphics member, Pep Love on the bill. Sunspot teamed up with producer BOAC for this newest Skywalkers project.
For five nights in June, Converse celebrated five genres of music that represent San Francisco and its residents. The free concert series featured Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Juicy J, Hot Chip, Mastodon, Suicidal Tendencies, Blackalicious, Quicksand, and more. Each show took place at Slim’s in San Francisco.
I was lucky enough to find my way inside for the night headlined by Deltron3030. Delton consist of Del the Funky Homesapien, Dan the Automator and Kid Koala; a very rare trio of collaborators if there ever was. I’ve seen Del a few times both solo and with his Hieroglyphics crew, but its a different experience all together when he teams up with his Deltron brothers. Continue reading →
As a fan of K.R.I.T. since his first big mixtape in 2010, its always exciting when he comes to town and I get the opportunity to see him live. I first got to see him perform at the Rock the Bells festival in 2011 and he was a big highlight of that festival. Easy decision to go to his show at the DNA Lounge; its a great small venue that I’ve seen a several different kinds of shows at. Continue reading →
Forrest Day is a kick ass funky rock band that puts on great energetic shows all over California. I’ve seen them many times and even posted a video of their show a few months ago. I was excited when I first saw they were playing at Mezzanine with Rebirth Brass Band. Continue reading →
San Francisco’s modern rock radio station Live 105 puts on their annual BFD Festival every summer. First time I went was back in 2002; Rob Zombie and Papa Roach performances are still remembered fondly. This year’s big acts included Passion Pit, Stone Temple Pilots and DJ Shadow and Diplo out in the Subsonic electronic tent. I briefly connected with my co-host BVanek, but he was with some other friends who wanted to see some of the other bands. My old college friend Donna was also there and I got to hang out and reconnect with her a little bit which was very cool! Continue reading →
I’ve been a pretty big UFC fan and supporter for many years, and I was able to attend my first live UFC show. They’d come through to Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose in years past but for one reason or another never went to a show. When UFC announced they were returning to the bay area for UFC on FOX 7 I was excited and knew I had to get my tickets to be in the building. Continue reading →
Zion-I are Oakland legends. Just so happens they often work and collaborate with a couple of other Legends, The Grouch and Eligh from Living Legends. I recognize its a special occasion when Zion-I hook up with The Grouch, but when they also call up Eligh it adds an extra level of hip hop magic that few other groups can create. Continue reading →
