SPENTRadio took a trip out to beautiful Oakland, CA to celebrate the 20 year legacy of the Hieroglyphics out at Hiero Day. Hieroglyphics Imperium teamed up with Oakland-based Linden Street Brewery to present the Second Annual Hiero Day block party on Monday, September 2, 2013. ‘Hiero Day, the free all day music festival that featured live performances by the legendary Hieroglyphics and other special guests, local merchandise vendors, food trucks, and interactive activities for all ages. Hiero Day celebrated and showcased the Bay Area’s diverse, innovative, multicultural, and multigenerational music movement in the heart of Oakland.
We were fortunate enough to get some time to talk to some of the hosts, performing artists and organizers at the event including Chuy Gomez, DJ Sake-One, DJ D-Sharp, Davey D, The Black Opera, Igor Katz, Kev Choice, Justin Berger, Knobody, and hip hop legend Craig G. The entire community came out for Hiero Day to show support, it was a beautiful thing. Oakland Mayor Jean Quan even made an official declaration that September 3 (9/3; ‘93 Til Infinity) be known as Hiero Day in Oakland; a big deal for anyone and a big deal for hip hop. SPENTRadio can’t wait to return to Hiero Day next year!
