HieroDay Logo2014SPENTRadio returned to Hiero Day for our second consecutive year (It’s the 3rd annual Hiero Day) to get some podcast action in. We were so excited to return after such a successful event and podcast in 2013. We were fortunate enough to have ample recording space over in the media area and the event’s organizers had scheduled several artists/performers time to meet with us and other media outlets. AJ Kirsch (@AJKirsch)

When AJ Kirsch first called into our Blogtalk show he was fresh off of WWE’s Tough Enough. Some 3 years later a lot has changed within Kirsch’s life and career. While still a pro wrestler his outlook and goals have changed up significantly. Wrestling is still a big part of his life, but his focus has altered from WWE to HoodSlam, a smaller independent company he, and several other active professional wrestlers are passionate that has quickly gained a lot of attention and eyes in the San Francisco bay area. We hear about why he loves Hoodslam so much and how he feels it differs from other independent companies he’s wrestled in before. As longtime fans, both JD and BNos go deep into the wrestling rabbit hole with Kirsch.  Continue reading

Soulati (@teeshep) and Infinite (@emceeinfinite)

We were joined by both Infinite and Soulati in this episode. Both are long time collaborators and members of Felonious, bay area’s live hip-hop music and theater collective. Infinite has called into our show in the past, but this was our first opportunity to connect face to face with him and close friend and band mate Soulati. Both perform as emcees within Felonious in addition to being the two beat boxers within the group. While Felonious, as a group, has stopped performing live as often as they once did, Infinite and Soulati continue to create their own music and art; often working with each other still.  Continue reading

Sake One

We were fortunate enough to connect with Sake One this episode. Sake is an old friend of the show; he called into our Blogtalk show, while out in Cleveland, years ago, and we were lucky enough to get a few minutes with him during Hiero Day, but this is the first time we’ve been able to sit down and go deep in conversation with him.

Known to us as one of the most respected and established DJs working in SF and the bay area, Sake is also very passionate about his city and the people that call it their home. As Facebook followers, we were aware of his consistent outspokenness towards social injustices, police brutality and equality, but really learned how and where that mind thought came to be. We were pleased to learn just how much time and energy Sake has spent volunteering and working for several community Continue reading

Kabir Singh @Kabeezy

The crew packed up and made the trip out to good old Pleasanton to Tommy T’s Comedy Club to podcast with stand-up comic Kabir Singh. For longtime SPENTRadio fans you may remember Singh from our early blogtalkradio days, but this is the first time we’ve connected face to face.

JD got some great sports talk in with Singh, a big sports fan himself, which was a cool opportunity for them; JD doesn’t get much sport talk in with BNos nor BVan. We also talked about WWE and Night of Champions. Kabir has got some very passionate thoughts about some of the talent he believes are the future of professional wrestling. Continue reading

Shomari Smith @TilInfinityDoc

We had Shomari Smith on the show this episode and we are quite pleased we did. Smith is the director of “Til Infinity” a documentary on the Souls of Mischief and the 20th anniversary of ‘93 Til Infinity, the classic hip hop album. We were pleased to learn a lot more about him and his various artistic talents in addition to filmmaking.

It was fascinating hearing some old Hiero and Souls of Mischief stories from someone who has been so close to the group for so many years, but still being an outsider of sorts. Watching the group grow and evolve from such a close proximity while continuing to build and develop his own craft as an artist himself. We learned just how his relationship and previous work lead up to the decision to create a film about Souls of Mischief. Continue reading
